Notes

  • Eric
    • IE8 & 9 are working now with S2S, but doesn't use standards
      • if (IE8 or <) use XDomainRequest, else use XmlHttpRequest
    • IE7 and prior are
    • Working on S2S
    • Integrating with BCO-DMO map interface
    • For VSTO, for example, we could set up a (University of Wisconsin) MapServer (http://mapserver.org/) where we would send CEDAR instrument points, MLSO instrument points, etc... to the servie and get a map.
    • Same with NEON. They might have a mapserver.
      • Eric: Setting up MapServer might be outside the scope of Semantic eScience
      • Patrick: Need to set up for the testbed at least
    • Working with Doug Elis on S2S integration
      • Doug has OSDD, RDF, etc... in place for the integration
  • Han
    • Looking into Virtuoso problem
    • Semantic eScience project - Mushroom Identifier project. (Katie is on this project, too.)
    • Citizen Scientist user, between domain expert and non-specialist
    • Working with Domain Expert from Encyclopedia of Life
    • Building mushroom ontology
    • User aks/answers questions to identify mushrooms
    • There might be existing xml vocabularies which could be reused
    • Han won ITWS Founder's award for Outstanding Academic Performance and Leadership and Creativity CONGRATS again Han!
  • Linyun
    • Portal Generator Drupal Page http://tw.rpi.edu/web/project/SeSF/workinggroups/ScientificDataPortalGenerator updated "Stages" session with a tiny little plan for this semester
    • Learning PHP and JavaScript benefits the Air Quality Portal project of the Semantic eScience course. The project is based on demo by Dominic: http://www.difranzo.com/ses/air.php
    • Data Science project on air pollutant, similar to AQP, using EPA data
    • Patrick: compare national and state and NGO data on the same issue
  • Arun
    • Upgraded DSpace to 1.7.2
    • Integrated RCS accounts
    • Created Communities and Collections
  • Yu
    • Data Quality Metrics(DataFAQs)
      • Getting installed CKAN http://ckan.org/
      • Working with Tim Lebo on the barebone of the system
      • Writing up the basic structure of the paper
    • Sensor Semantic Netowork
      • Playing with TinyOS based sensors http://www.tinyos.net/
      • Developed a set of test code on the sensor network
      • Will be merging with CSIRO's project, probably
    • Semantic Input Method
      • Migrating the working system to php and test with Joanne's use case
  • Naveen
    • Provenance - SPCDIS Visualization
  • Rajashree
    • Laid out the overall structure for discovery, writing a report on it
    • Implemented SIREn and tested it but it does not give us the desired level of granularity while performing the search
    • Because of the same reason Apache Lucene will also not serve our purpose
    • Currently looking at Virtuoso bif for conducting search, trying to implement and work with examples
  • Le
    • BCO-DMO scripts
      • Conversion scripts, need to move to new schema
    • metpetdb as a potential SeSF testbed
      • Architecture is similar to BCO-DMO
      • Can integrate SeSF and DSpace
  • Katie (microphoneless via GoToMeeting)
    • Working on mushroom project in SeS class with Han (see above).
  • Discovery
    • ESIP calls Federated search as Discovery
    • SESF Discovery Interface (NOT S2S) will take in a set of parameters like Area, Keywords ( maybe based on SWEET ontology) and Time
    • Different projects will register with the Service Registry
    • Search results will show hyperlinks leading to S2S-like interfaces to explore the datasets
    • Rajashree will post document link for free-text search on working group page
