Legacy data rescue in the DCO-EPC science community

Name

  • Legacy data rescue in the DCO-EPC science community

Goal

  • To extract dataset from tables in scanned PDF of journal papers and archive them with metadata

Summary

  • A huge amount of legacy datasets are contained in published literature. It is a valuable work to extract, organize and reuse those datasets.

Functional Requirements Document User Administrator Management Dashboard

Authors:Patrick West

Abstract:

The purpose of these functional requirements is to ensure that DCO User Administrators have the ability to handle user account registrations, to act on pending registrations and to see the status of a user’s registration. The system implemented should allow user administrators to accept or deny currently pending requests, to accept currently denied requests, to see when and who acted on a user’s request, and to check the status of a user’s request.

Description: Given this increasing data deluge, it is clear that each of the Directorates in the Deep Carbon Observatory face diverse data science and data management needs to fulfill both their decadal strategic objectives and their day-to-day tasks. This project will assess in detail the data science and data management needs for each DCO directorate and for the DCO as a whole, using a combination of informatics methods; use case development, requirements analysis, inventories and interviews.

User Administrator view registrations with different status

Points of Contact:Patrick West

Authors:Patrick West

Goal:

Allow a User Manager to find a user registration in various status lists

Summary:

From time to time a User Administrator might need to view lists of user registrations depending on the status of the registration. A user might not have received confirmation emails or a user might not have confirmed a registration. For whatever reason, a User Administrator must be given the opportunity to view a list of registrations given a particular status.

The front page of the User Management Dashboard will display the list of pending requests, as that is the list that most action will come from, accepting or denying user registrations.

A list of unconfirmed registrations, meaning that a user registered for a request but either did not confirm their registration request, or didn’t receive the confirmation email.

A list of accepted registrations, meaning that a user registered and confirmed their registration, and a User Manager accepted that registration.

A list of denied registrations, meaning that a user registered and confirmed their registration, and a User Manager denied that registration.

A list of acted-on registrations, meaning that a User Manager wants to see whether a user’s registration was accepted or denied.

User Registration Accepted from Deny List on Management Dashboard

Points of Contact:Patrick West

Authors:Patrick West

Goal:

Allow DCO User Administrators to accept registration requests after they’ve already been denied.

Summary:

On occasion a User Administrator might deny an account registration request by a user by accident. Whether the administrator did not know the user, or it was later determined that the user is valid and their registration was denied in error, or for whatever reason.

In the previous system, where a user registered via Drupal, user administrators were presented with a dashboard where they could accept or deny account requests. This “dashboard” included some of the registration information to help the administrator to decide whether to accept or deny the registration request.

In the new Single Sign-On system a User Manager should be able to see the list of currently denied registrations and select one or more of those and accept them.
