Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning Vocabularies

Introduction

The Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning Vocabularies (CMSPV) project is about vocabulary and ontology development within the context of the overall development of Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning (CMSP) and Ocean and Coastal Mapping (OCM) portals by environmental inter-agency collaboration to provide search and browse options that inspire user confidence that all relevant information has been found; data providers will know how to create metadata to increase the likelihood that their information will be found.

We developed a RESTful service based on the Elda open-source Java package to facilitate data access. Our experience shows that constructing a simple portal with limited schema elements in this way can significantly reduce development time and maintenance complexity.
