I hold a private pilot's license for single engine land airplanes. I love flying. I 2002 and 2009 was invited to the annual Oshkosh AirVentre (air show). 2002 was the 50th anniversary of the event. My friend Phill Apley took this photo at Oshkosh, WI in August 2002. It was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit at the booth, a week later, it was half that at ISMB (Edmonton, CA) and raining.

Phil is now CEO of and have been able to bring some of experiences to help support their mission of safe flying through accurate and efficient flight planning.

I was not in a position to attend Oshkosh while I was employed at MITRE. This is because MITRE works with the FAA and it could be seen as a potential conflict of interest.

I also enjoy hiking, rock climbing, scuba diving and cycling and generally being outdoors and alive in nature. Nature is nurture.

Personal Life

The current photo was taken by Erica Clark on the river Cam in Cambridge, UK. It was Erica's birthday and her son, took us all for a punt in celebration. Erica's daughter is at the head of the punt (behind me), and her husband, Dominic, is next to her. In the uncropped version, Dominic's foot is visible in the camera's frame.

The previous photo on my home page was taken at KRO2 in Manchester, UK November 30th 2005 at the dinner reception of an ontology development course at Manchester. I think it was Matthew Horridge who snapped the photo.

This is a photo of my mom, Sylvia Statlender Luciano, who died Feb 28, 2007, taken in December 2004. A little bit about her life and history is at
