Faceted Search

Faceted search, also called faceted navigation or faceted browsing, is a technique for accessing information organized according to a faceted classification system, allowing users to explore a collection of information by applying multiple filters. As the web content is increasingly generated in more diverse situations, provenance is becoming more and more critical. While a variety of approaches have been investigated for capturing and making use of provenance metadata, arguably no single best-practice approach has emerged.

We aim to inform the development of decision support tools for resource managers who need to examine large complex ecosystems and make recommendations in the face of many tradeoffs and conflicting drivers.
