Abstract
Many applications require both the ability … Many applications require both the ability to reason in real-time and the ability to reason about time. In addition, blackboard architectures have proven to provide effective solutions for an interesting class of problems.Previous blackboard systems have dealt with the temporal dimension but on anad hoc domain-dependent basis. Formal approaches to temporal representation fail to address the issue of computational tractability. In this paper we present a domain-independent temporal representation for blackboard systems.By introducing some variability into the space that can be represented we gain the representational control which will be needed to guarantee computational tractability. d to guarantee computational tractability.
