The rapid growth of knowledge about carcin … The rapid growth of knowledge about carcinogenisis, prognoses,and treatment options has made the practice of oncology particularly complex. As in other fields of medicine, investigators are developing computer programs to help oncologists effectively deal with the clinical information they need to provide optimal care.This chapter summarizes the available tools for information management and describes current research indicative of the evolving information systems for oncology. The emphasis is on computer-based tools to help physicians and other health workers deliver improved health care to cancer patients through rapid access to general information and to data about and advice about specific patients. about and advice about specific patients.
