Agenda January 28, 2009

Peter, Patrick and Stephan

  • January 21 and January 26 meeting update/recap
  • TWC Subversion server
    • location
      • cluster gateway? (has not been ordered yet)
      • escience? (yes)
    • account management
      • temporary system until ldap is ready? (yes, using SSL)
      • wait for ldap? (no, Li will be working on this but won't be able to get to it for a while)
        • can we run a TWC managed ldap server on escience?
          • VCC will be managing the ldap installation. TWC will be managing the configuration.
      • initial users are Patrick, Stephan, Peter, Josh
      • go with simplest solution over ssl (Stephan will decide the best approach for now) (case 54)
  • Software on escience
    • dig in to using yum to install to /opt instead of installing binaries or from source from downloads. (case 80)
  • TWC Project Pages
    • RNI alpha release? need a page somewhere.
    • Project List
    • SPCDIS Project Page
    • Stephan to get with Li to set up a page for RNI (later we can move this to an ESG page if we decide to)
    • This will be where we migrate the project pages from hao
  • OPeNDAP credential support update
    • fogbugz wiki page
    • case 51
    • ppt client, during handshake, will pass the credential during authentication. The BES will return a token that future requests to the BES will need to match to that credential.
    • ppt authentication handshake, during SSL connection, the BES would either receive a token for ok connection, or receive a token for authorization credential. This is a change to ppt as now, once the SSL connection is made, the client/server is authenticated, and the connection is dropped.
  • RNI authorization policy question (authorize at ncml definition or netcdf dataset)
    • Authorization is done on the NCML file, not the individual files that make up the NCML file. So there's only one authorization call made, for the NCML. This is done at the first BES.
  • February trip
    • received United itinerary
    • Jacky is making hotel arrangements
    • All arriving about the same time (PW & SZ at 8:53 and PF around 8:30), will meet up and take public transport
    • Peter will be making an agenda for Goddard
    • Agenda started above
  • Business Cards
    • Patrick's ordered
  • FogBugz Emails update (case 72)
  • MLSO Database - still using the old schema from Tony, not new one Jose and Leonard have been working on for more than a year (case 56)
    • Continue to try and resolve the problem with the old schema
    • Contact Leonard about seeing the new schema
  • Case 71 - "Design Document for NcML aggregation (rough draft)" - due today
  • ESG Project
    • Peter heard from Don about transferring ... it will go through to RPI and we can re-engage
    • Get the RNI work done as much as possible before re-engaging
  • Equipment has arrived and should be sent via FedEx. Look for email from Jacky regarding tracking number.
  • Peter will be moving to 2nd floor next week. Should have some stuff by the time we get there.
  • Project management
    • This would be for student projects like RPI Map
    • Would we use Google Code, or the OPenDAP approach of SVN with Trac, or try to find a MediaWiki solution
    • There is also the Issue List on the TW Wiki. This is only being used by Jie.
    • Li pointed out a MediaWiki extension IssueTracker
    • Jie says that the reason he created on is 1) he could get IssueTracker to work (MW version issue, no longer a problem) and he wanted to be able to do searches on it using SMW
    • I (Patrick) was able to install IssueTracker and play around with it. Pretty simple, but usable. Does not have the semantic search capabilities.
    • I (Patrick) am starting to wonder if it's not so much the software that is at issue here, it is getting people to use it. There are some available, but they aren't being used.
