Suggest Map Work
- Test Map functions extensively on IE
- Semantic Layer not work properly on IE. (e.g. map won't update immediately as a layer been checked/unchecked)
- Try to make Map able draw a direction from one building to another.
- If user click two buildings, we may be able to find a way from one to anther.
- If above work is done, try to make it work one cell phone too.
- If we can get a GPS Coordinator for a cell phone user, we display user's current position on map, if user click a builing, try to draw a way between user position and building clicked.
(I am trying to find information to see how to do above work)

Baojie Jie and Jin met briefly with Brian of the RPI shuttle group
- The shuttle project is funded by RPI CIO; server is at VCC; GPS device sends location report every 1/4 mile, approximately 15 seconds. The server and database is at VCC.
- We asked if it is possible to more frequent update of bus location. Brian says he will investigate it.
- I asked if there is any problem if in the future map.rpi.edu and shuttles.rpi.edu merge. Brian does not mention any.
- RPI is coming to install touch screen at a couple on-campus places, showing current events at RPI. Brian is among the develop team. We suggest to have RPI Map integrated into the project. Brian confirms the interest. A site he shows to input event for the system: http://signage.rpi.edu/admin/. All events informaiton will be processable from an XML file.
- For example, we suggst to have a "today's event" map on the touch screen.
- I suggest we meet monthly, every first Wed 4-5pm. We'd like to meet any members of the shuttle project as well.

- Contact Brian about how to embedded our map to touch-screen project. Ask for more information about project, e.g. what information can be provided in this system, what do they want us do, what can we provide for this project.
- Ask Deborah for an iphone/ipod for cellphone map.
- Test Printable Map
- Email Rui KML File.
- Rui
- Design campus pathes (KML)
- Rebuild RPI Map on the new Map Server.

Brian's Email about Touch-Screen Project
Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 4:41 PM
The touch-screen project is still very far out before we'll have a functional prototype. We've just started to assemble a basic screen (without touch screen capabilities) to demo the enclosure and test out our base hardware. We will have the capability to display non-interactive text and image-based content via the Concert system (http://signage.rpi.edu) within a week or two. If you can think of any non-interactive uses for your system that might be an interesting route to explore for the short-term. I can certainly meet up to discuss the technical capabilities our revision 1 prototype will have if you have any non-interactive ideas you're interested in pursuing.
Once we get the base system working we'll start to explore the touch screen components and potential integration with various interactive systems on campus. I will definitely keep you in the loop as we make progress in this area.
I wouldn't expect anything in the next few weeks on the interactive pieces, most of the team has been very busy completing features for the upcoming release of Concerto, which we're currently 2 weeks behind schedule with.
In other news, I hope to have some time at the end of this week divert some attention away from Concerto development to look into some of the shuttle tracking system features we discussed. As always, you'll be the first to know when I make progress.
Sorry about the delays we're experiencing, hopefully get back on track soon!
Thanks,
Brian Michalski

- We talked about Rui's work on RPI path map. (be able to find the shortest path from a location to another in RPI campus)
- We talked about releasing current version of semantic google map. The deadline for this part of work is Nov 22, and we will be releasing our part of work, shuttle part won't be included.
- We gave a short demo on an semantic google map application -- VSTO.
- In the meeting we talked the progress of our project:
- Brian's group's progress:
- They bought screen for touch-screen project, but screen is not a touch-screen yet. They are working on installing screen over the buildings and make them touch-screen.
- They are try to shorten the updata time of shuttle's position
- Brian's group's progress:
- Work raised:
- Brian will sent us information on accessing shuttle location database.
- Brian will sent us information on how to create login system for wiki that allows RCSID. [1]
- Work raised:
- We need to create Course Map (a page that shows all course location) and Event Map (a page that shows event location)
- Create login system for RPI Map that allows RCSID.
