How to print posters at vcc

This page describes: tips for printing posters at VCC@RPI

  1. upload you poster to web or a memory stick
  2. go to VCC, and login a machine
  3. open your poster with appropriate viewer
  4. choose a printer following VCC poster printing instructions. Note: we normally use vcplt.
  5. configure the printer to appropriate paper size using "advanced" tab in print tab. Note: the largest width is 6 feet (72 inches), and the largest size is Oversize A0.
    • if print in "portrait" page orientation, we normally use "ISO AO"
    • if print in "landscape" page orientation, we normally use "ISO A1"
    • to learn more about the paper size (what A0 means, check helpdesk or wikipedia
  6. we typically need to check "scale to fit" option to ensure our poster fits in the desired paper size.
  7. before commit print, use preview to double-check (i) the actual page size; (ii) the poster does fit the page


hints:

  • the VCC machines are using windows vista (office 2007), so please check if your poster has the same look as your own editor (e.g. office 2003).
  • PDF is good, you don't need to worry about the above issue. However, PDF conversion may cause the decrease of image quality (your images may be compressed into undesirable low quality). to address this issue, it may help if you use "press" option when you convert your poster into pdf.
