How can something so amorphous and inherently complex as the Web possibly be studied and understood?
The Web Science Research Initiative was launched in 2006. In fact, three of the four founding directors and the associate director are members of this panel. But, as renowned Internet expert David Clark once said of the users of the Web, “We have no kings or president. We believe in rough consensus and running code.” There are billions of internet users and Web sites that can all be connected to one another. How can something so amorphous and inherently complex possibly be studied and understood?
