How can we enable quality of service on the Internet?

Right now everything's a best efforts, throw everything through at the same time in the same way approach, but aren't there possibilities where prioritizing some traffic over others can be a great thing?

For example, creating a separate dedicated channel for your VoIP traffic so that calls aren't degraded whenever someone else in the house starts using P2P.

Is there any potential for a future where allowing some traffic to be prioritized over others to be a net positive for consumers, app developers, and network operators?

How can a communication system serve a democratic society if it is not fully transparent to the user?

With HTML and the advent of the WWW, layers of information were added to documents that remain hidden from the user’s view. Unbeknownst to the user, they can contain, carry, and transmit information that can incriminate or divulge the user beyond any level that a reasonably responsible person can be aware of. The new standard Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), virtually allows to transmit our entire medical record within a single IP address sent back to a website.

Is such a system not determined to falter once society realizes its perils?

Mobile Internet accessible?

I see a big future for the mobile Internet since I believe that on a global level, more people own cell phones than own computers. Yet, when I view the Web on a cellphone, the small screen limit its usefulness and functionality. A "tetherless world" is probably marked by the increasing mobility of technology but how can we downsize web content and make it accessible to people with vision disabilities on a tiny mobile cell phone screen?

Industry Consolidation--Good or bad?

Like in the late 1990s, there is a growing consolidation of technology/Internet companies. Is this a good or bad trend for a people-centered Web? Will it enhance our experience and create a "seamless" Internet or will it centralize the largest companies who have access to our personal information? If it is not an either/or question, then what is the best model of the business end of the Internet that holds the most promise of creativity and freedom for the average user, whether they are in South Beach or South Korea or South Africa?
