The idea of a truly Semantic Web has been met with criticism from some who say that it is utopian and would require all users to share common, agreed-upon languages. Berners-Lee, Hendler, and others have often countered such criticism by noting the Semantic Web is actually more flexible than the current Web, allowing users to share and exchange languages easily. But some underlying issues might still remain in such an inherently chaotic, but still highly personalized technology. With the Web becoming more personalized, does widespread application of the Semantic Web require that the Web fall back under the control of scientists and programmers who have its long-term sustainability and future in mind?
