Just wondering how the panel sees this battle playing out in the near term for the US market. Looks like Apple improved its "3-G" connectivity and dropped its prices, but Nokia seems to attract the open-source coders. Thank you for taking my question.
iPhone more popular, but Nokia has niche in open source comm.

When I thought I was looking for a new laptop, I came across the Nokia N800 and realized that was the type of device I was really looking for, something ultra-portable but still had the power of Linux and the open-source community. I had never even considered comparing it to the iPhone. I think I tuned out the iPhone when I heard how it was all locked down (But apparently there is Beta SDK which is news to me). I personally feel that an open-source coder is more likely to purchase a Nokia than a iPhone, so that it would follow they are more likely to code for one. Especially when in many circumstances porting one's favorite app. or existing code is a matter of Hildonizing it (modifying it for the Nokia windowing system). Of course there is the problem of library dependencies, but this is much more of an issue on an iPhone (them being proprietary I'm sure). Thats just my 2 cents.
If I had an iPhone instead, I think I would miss mplayer, media streamer and of course ssh.
