abstract: Implementation, analysis, and application work with CLASSIC have provided opportunities for evaluating the usefulness and implications of our selection of term constructors. We have discovered that all of our applications depend critically on one or more constructs not found in some systems based on terminologgical logics. We report on user needs (and demands) for sets, individual fillers in concept descriptions, coreference constraints, host language escapes, and simple rules.
We discuss some of the advantages and complications that these features introduced from the perspective of both system designers and knowledge engineers.
