As collaborative repositories grow in popu … As collaborative repositories grow in popularity and use, issuesconcerning the quality and trustworthiness of information grow.Some current popular repositories contain contributions from a widevariety of users, many of which will be unknown to a potential enduser. Additionally the content may change rapidly and informationthat was previously contributed by a known user may be updated by anunknown user. End users are now faced with more challenges as theyevaluate how much they may want to rely on information that wasgenerated and updated in this manner. A trust management layer hasbecome an important requirement for the continued growth andacceptance of collaboratively developed and maintained informationresources. In this paper, we will describe our initialinvestigations into designing and implementing an extensible trustmanagement layer for collaborative and/or aggregated repositories ofinformation. We leverage our work on the Inference Web explanationinfrastructure and exploit and expand the Proof Markup Language tohandle a simple notion of trust. Our work is designed to supportrepresentation, computation, and visualization of trust information.We have grounded our work in the setting of Wikipedia. In thispaper, we present our vision, expose motivations, relate work todate on trust representation, and present a trust computationalgorithm with experimental results.
