Adapting golog for composition of semantic web services
Abstract Motivated by the problem of automatically Motivated by the problem of automatically composingnetwork accessible services, such as thoseon the World Wide Web, this paper proposesan approach to building agent technology basedon the notion of generic procedures and customizinguser constraint. We argue that an augmentedversion of the logic programming languageGolog provides a natural formalismfor automaticallycomposing services on the SemanticWeb. To this end, we adapt and extend the Gologlanguage to enable programs that are generic, customizable and usable in the context of theWeb. Further, we propose logical criteria forthese generic procedures that define when theyare knowledge self-sufficient and physically selfsufficient. To support information gathering combinedwith search, we propose a middle-groundGolog interpreter that operates under an assumptionof reasonable persistence of certain information. These contributions are realized in our augmentationof a ConGolog interpreter that combinesonline execution of information-providingWeb services with offline simulation of worldalteringWeb services, to determine a sequenceof Web Services for subsequent execution. Ourimplemented system is currently interacting withservices on the Web. ently interacting withservices on the Web.
