abstract: The long term goal of this project is to build a knowledge-based environmentfor software system designers. A particular emphasis is being placed oncreating a symbiotic environment in which the tools of the environment arecarefully selected to complement the general skills and activities of humandesigners. Our hypothesis is that to increase the productivity of humandesigners, the best approach is to provide them with an environment thatsupports the way they design.
