David's research is in the following area:
Challenge:
Work in project environments is often complicated due to the ambiguity and vagueness that surrounds the deliverable and how it will be realised. It is further complicated by the fact that projects are subject to multiple nodes of potentially conflicting political influence that attempt to steer efforts in opposing directions which often results in emergent conflict.
1. How can the ‘Value Delivery’ of complex projects be managed to meet diverse stakeholder interests?
2. How can the Time-to-Value of complex projects be reduced whilst meeting stakeholder needs?
Approach:
Explore how digital tools can augment our ability to make sense of the world, by tapping into collective intelligence using Knowledge Cartography and Web 2.0 technologies, in order to help us to construct, share and contest interpretations of the world.
Rational:
I believe that socio-technical problems (such as those of ambiguity, vagueness and conflict) are too large for any individual to solve however if collective intelligence can be harnessed emergent solutions will be realised. Web 2.0 technologies provide an exciting opportunity to tap into collective intelligence thus make advances in solving socio-technical problems.
Applications:
Increasing productivity, decision-quality, cooperation, and situational awareness in organisational settings e.g. Enterprises, academia, NGOs, projects, virtual organisations.
Current Research Theme:
"to explore how ambiguity and vagueness impact the 'Value Delivery' of complex projects and how they can be managed to improved Time-to-Value".
