abstract: We view diagnosis as the process of fault finding in a system which isexhibiting symptoms not consistent with our model of it. It is desirable thatfault finding indicate actions to be performed, especially in real-timedomains. We show how to represent actions and diagnoses in such a way as toalways provide us with a godd action to perform when we reach a deadline; wealso indicate a possible mechanism for representing these deadlines. We showan example of these concepts applied to the surgical intensive care unit(SICU) domain.
