abstract: TransFER is a formal model to facilitate the sharing of databasequeries across medical institutions with heterogeneous clinical databases. Inthis paper, we describe the design and the results of a formal evaluation toassess the utility and generality of the TransFER model. The data suggeststhat automating the translation of queries across heterogeneous databases hassignificant potential, but that further work in the representation of temporalsemantics and in the optimization of complex queries is required.
