abstract: This document provides a brief introduction to the use of the MAITRE tool. MAITRE is an ontology editor for use within the PROTEGE-II architecture; it allows the user to model knowledge in a domain with a hierarchy of classes. This system uses a frame-based knowledge-representation language called MODEL. The goal of MAITRE is to allow the user to edit and build MODEL code that can then be used to build domain-specific knowledge-acquisition tools.
