Project 3 resources page
From Web Science 2009 class
This page is where you can exchange info, resources, ask for advice, or otherwise collaborate with others - feel free to create subpages or etc.
And remember, Dominic's examples and pointers are at Project 3 Notes
- 12/06 - JAH:: Contributions to the Project_3_resources_page will be considered when "Class participation" is factored into grading...
- 12/06 - JAH: A wiki with lots of tools for working with Open Data (supported by O'Reilly Pubs) - Tools Wiki
- 12/06 - JAH: The NY Times Linked Data includes a number of places in NYS - for example, The page for Brooklyn - note that if you download the entire locations DB in RDF, it is large, so may hang your browser for a bit. Dominic will be setting up a SPARQL endpoint for this - he'll announce it here when done.
- 12/06 - Cam: You can also register for the Developer API or experiment with the API Console.
- 12/06 - Dominic: NYTimes location dataset is now up on http://logd.tw.rpi.edu/sparql You read more about it here
- 12/06 - JAH: Some pointers to other open data repositories (most without linked data) are available at http://www.socialbrite.org/sharing-center/gov-2-0-resources/
- 12/06 - JAH:A few NYS cities, towns and counties were named after British locations. The http://data.gov.uk/linked-data site has links to lots of UK linked data (with endpoints), perhaps for those looking for a few extra bells and whistles in search of an "A"
- 12/07 - Becca: If anyone is doing a page on a senator you can go to this link and see what kinds of social media that senator has. http://www.nysenate.gov/senators . Maybe an idea for adding something to your page.
- 12/08 - Tom R: Gapminder.org has a very nice visualization tool. They have a desktop application, but you can make something similar using a simplified version. It is accessible via Google's Visualization API.
- 12/08 - Mike F: Exhibit is a JavaScript framework that is used in a number of the open data demos. Includes text filtering, interactive maps (Google Maps API), and timelines.
- 12/14 - Dan/Zach/Phil: It may be interesting to include twitter search results of the particular NY senator/community that was selected. We worked with the Python Twitter API earlier in the semester, but there are also some PHP and Javascript libraries that can be used with the Twitter API. http://dev.twitter.com/pages/libraries#javascript
- 12/16 - Adjoa: It may be hard to find many NY Times articles that are relevant to your senator. An interesting idea is to integrate a portion of your senator's website into your page.
