Project 2.0: The Social Web
The programming project details are in websci-assignment2.pdf.
This project will go from 2009-10-23 through 2009-11-24 with various steps along the way.
- Step 1: Oct 23, in class, START:
- Review the important twitter project rules
- Declare the name of their tweeter account, notes about the character (which can be updated throughout the project) and the names of the 3 to 4 students who are on the team.
- Play with the python tweeter interface
- Step 2: HOMEWORK - due October 30
- Each team will develop one or more questions about networks, marketing, going viral or related issues for Don McMurtry who will be lecturing on Novemner 3.
- Step 3: Programming Project Released - November 3 (due Nov 20)
- Details of the python tweeter project you will do (as part of your team's work) is posted at websci-assignment2.pdf.
NOTE: there will be no formal class on Nov 17, the TA will run a lab session Q/A on the project.
- Step 4: PROJECT DUE - November 20
- Step 5: PRESENTATION IN CLASS - November 20
- Each project group will give a 10-minute talk which discusses the approaches used and lessons learned in increasing the popularity of their tweep.
- Step 6: Written Project report (approx 5 pages) - November 24
- Each team will submit a paper including the results of running their code for their final tweep counts (details in class)
- A discussion of the strategies used to increase the counts (and whether they were successful or not, and why or why not)
- your discussion MUST include what it is about the twitter network that led you to believe the strategies might work.
